He may have been too young to watch Baywatch in the 1990s, but 27-year-old Zac Efron is in talks to star in the big-screen adaptation of the iconic TV series.
The High School Musical actor will be following in the sandy footsteps of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, who both rose to fame playing lifeguards on the show.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will also appear in the film and has already tweeted about his new co-star…
No, we don’t entirely understand those tweets (what exactly does The Rock do when he drinks?), but the general gist is that the former wrestler is excited about Zac Efron being in his film.
And Efron seems excited too, especially about that baby oil thing.
With few plot details available, we can only guess that Efron will be topless and wearing red shorts as he runs in slow motion along long stretches of Californian beach. An inspired casting choice, if you ask us.
But we’ve got a hint of storyline from The Hollywood Reporter which has Johnson playing a “very serious lifeguard” who joins up with a young, rather unpredictable “hothead”, played by Efron, to save the beach being destroyed by an oil tycoon.
Production on the film is expected to start in early 2016.
