Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are unhappily married in first trailer for By the Sea

The real-life newlyweds are starring in their first film together since Mr and Mrs Smith

Brace yourself for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as you’ve never seen them before.

Rather than enjoy a honeymoon like regular folk, the newlyweds spent the months after their nuptials filming scenes in which they play a desperately unhappy married couple. Written and directed by Jolie, the pair’s new film – titled By the Sea – follows a couple “with issues” (an understatement, judging by the trailer) who holiday on the coast in a last-ditch attempt to save their marriage.

But while the new teaser offers an exciting glimpse of the Jolie-Pitts’ first on-screen collaboration in ten years, don’t expect the sort of fiery chemistry we witnessed in Mr and Mrs Smith. What starts out as an uneasy peace soon descends into a violent war of words as the couple’s (fictional) marriage hangs by a thread.
