Conflict, raves and romance in the first trailer for This Is England ’90

It's the final chapter of Shane Meadows' drama about a group of troubled youths— and Lol, Shaun, Woody and Milky are back and as complex as ever...

“Don’t worry guys, the good times will come again,” says Milky (Andrew Shim) at the end of the first trailer for Shane Meadows’ This is England ’90.

It certainly looks like there’ll be plenty of heartache as Woody (Joe Gilgun), Lol (Vicky Mcclure), Shaun (Thomas Turgoose), Smell (Rosamund Hanson) and more return to our screens.

We first met the brilliant but troubled friendship group in Meadows’ award-winning film This Is England, which spawned TV series spin-offs set in 1986 and 1988. Fans watched the characters grow up, change and face difficult truths — and now it’s the final chapter.

Yes, it’s the 90s: a whole new exciting world of acid house, raves and new haircuts (Vicky Mcclure’s is particularly impressive). But it’s clear the clan is still struggling through jobs, education and relationships while facing the anguish that’s always made the series so powerful.
