If you were worried that it was game over for Wreck-It Ralph, then rejoice: the animated video game baddie turned good is coming back for a sequel.
Star John C Reilly made the announcement at the Galway Film Fleadh after sharing stories about his career, saying that “It was agreed right here in Galway, on the phone” according to Independent.ie.
Starring the voices of Alan Tudyk, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch alongside Reilly, the original Wreck-It Ralph told the story of a retro video game character sick of his villainous role in an arcade game (which you can actually play for real here). Setting out on his own to become a hero instead, he sets in motion a chain of events that threaten the entire world that he and his friends inhabit.
A critical success, the movie was nominated for several awards including the Academy award for best animated film, and was also notable for including cameos from well-known videogame characters such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Pacman.
It remains to be seen what we can expect from the sequel (we fancy a tragic backstory to Candy Crush Saga personally), but one thing’s for sure – it’s bound to be on another level, even if it doesn’t totally manage to 1Up the original.
