Rebooting a cartoon classic is always a risk but Danger Mouse’s TV revival just got a whole lot more exciting with the addition of Lena Headey and John Oliver to the cast.
The Game of Thrones actress and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver presenter will join Pointless host Alexander Armstrong and sketch show veteran Kevin Eldon, who’ll voice Danger Mouse and Penfold respectively. Stephen Fry is already on board as the beloved rodent’s boss Colonel K, Ed Gaughan is Baron Greenback and Come Dine With Me narrator Ed Lamb will guide us through the new tale.
The news was revealed at a special Comic-Con panel, which gave fans the first look at the new series. It’s already been picked up by Netflix and will air on CBBC in the autumn.
Headey, who’s best known for playing Game of Thrones merciless mother-in-law Circe Lannister will star as US Secret Agent Jeopardy Mouse and is quite pleased to be taking on a role that’s a little more child-friendly.
“I have children now and it’s just a treat to be involved in something that you loved as a kid and be able to share it,” she said.
Meanwhile, Oliver will voice mad scientist wolf Dr. Augustus P. Crumhorn III and seems particularly excited about it. “I’ve loved Danger Mouse my whole life. Danger Mouse was a significant part of my childhood”, he said.
“So to get a chance to do it is like getting a chance to step into your childhood, which is both a magical and a potentially hazardous thing! It will be awesome, I can’t wait to see it, let alone hear myself in it!”
And Oliver’s not the only familiar TV face making an appearance either – Alexander Armstrong’s Pointless co-host Richard Osman will voice Professor Strontium Jellyfishowitz.
