TED 2 ★★★

Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane return as the “Thunder Buddies” in a fun sequel that lacks the novelty of the first film, but still has some great lines and ribald humour.

LOVE & MERCY ★★★

This biopic of The Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson shows him at his creative peak in the 1960s (when he’s played by Paul Dano), and suffering from crippling mental health problems in the 1980s (when he’s played by John Cusack). Wilson is a fascinating character, but this doesn’t quite do him justice.

THE CHOIR ★★★

A young orphan with a beautiful singing voice gets a chance to shape his future when he’s accepted at a prestigious musical academy. But, rather predictably, he comes into conflict with the strict regime, led by Dustin Hoffman.
