Flight of the Conchords’ Rhys Darby joins The X-Files

The New Zealand actor, best known for playing band manager Murray, will star alongside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in The X-Files relaunch

Actor Rhys Darby, who Flight of the Conchords fans will recognise as hapless and inadvertently hilarious band manager Murray, has landed a part in the upcoming X-Files relaunch.

The 41-year-old New Zealand-born star will appear alongside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s Mulder and Scully when the sci-fi series returns early next year.

Darby will reportedly play a man Mulder suspects after a series of what appear to be animal attacks. There’s little else known about the role, but this post, retweeted by the star himself, suggests he’ll feel at home on set: “Darby has long had a fascination with the weird and wonderful, from strange creatures to UFOs.”

Darby is clearly happy about his upcoming role too. He posted a “celebration shake” on Instagram yesterday before sharing a video of a plane landing in Vancouver, where the series is filming, today.
