When will Broadchurch series three begin filming?

Sources suggest production will wait until the autumn because Olivia Colman is due to give birth next month. So will it be time for the seaside town's residents to wrap up warm?

When can we expect the third series of Broadchurch?

Normally ITV’s David Tennant and Olivia Colman seaside crime drama has been shot in the glorious summer, helping the look of the series and no doubt pleasing the Dorset tourist board.

But when Broadchurch returns, it is likely to have an autumnal feel.

RadioTimes.com went to the village of West Bay recently and many locals were surprised that filming hadn’t started yet.

According to sources,  ITV is waiting for pregnant Colman to give birth (her third child is due in August) meaning that whatever writer Chris Chibnall has in store may well involve scarves, jumpers, stews and rosy-cheeked west country folk.

ITV are remaining tight-lipped and will only say the show is still “in pre-production”. As with the last series, all details about the new episodes are being kept under wraps.

The broadcaster made the announcement of a third series as the credits rolled on the final episode of series two which saw a shocking verdict delivered in the Joe Miller case and the solving of the Sandbrook murders.

In terms of other characters, Tennant and Colman are both expected to return, according to ITV insiders, but Andrew Buchan has said that he doesn’t know if he will be back.

However, his Broadchurch co-star Marianne Jean-Baptiste is fairly certain her character Sharon Bishop won’t be making another appearance:

“Sharon was there to do something very particular so unless she gets a bungalow on the beach I don’t see her returning”.
