Wimbledon 2015: London’s top outdoor screens to watch the tennis

Missed out on tickets and don't want to queue? There are other ways to watch the tennis outdoors...

5. Broadgate, City of London

The same spot that hosts an ice rink at Christmas, next to Liverpool Street station, transforms into an open-air screen during the summer. Surrounded by the busy banking district, cafes and historic pubs, this is the ideal place to grab a pint and watch the tournament. They will be showing sporting events from Wimbledon and the Tour de France as usual, do check their website for screening updates each day. Nearest tube: Liverpool Street

6. Paddington Central

Hidden behind Starbucks, near the canal in Paddington (Sheldon Square), you’ll find an incredible space from which to watch the sporting action this summer. Office workers flock to the nearby bars to watch the evening games on the big screen or pull up a bean bag on one of the steps. Note: no alcohol is allowed in the actual amphitheatre space, however, you are welcome to bring a picnic (there’s a Sainsbury’s, Pret a Manger and Itsu in the space below). Tennis matches will be shown everyday. Nearest tube: Paddington (Hammersmith and City line exit)

7. Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf

Once again, this grassy spot under the towering office buildings will be showing live action from Wimbledon this summer, along with live opera from The Royal Opera House, F1 Grand Prix action from Germany, Hungary and Silverstone, plus the British Golf Open (check the website for what’s on when). People often bring picnic blankets and hampers, but get there early: the big green in front of this giant outdoor cinema in Canada Square Park can fit 2,500 people but it can be uncomfortably busy during big matches. Nearest tube: Canary Wharf

8. Duke of York Square, Sloane Square

The perfect place to watch the final, Strawberries and Screen takes place at this city running track and is a very pleasant affair. The action will be broadcast on a 14ft screen, and guests are welcome to bring blankets, picnics and enjoy some champagne at the pop up bar. A VIP area with beanbags and picnic blankets is available to those who pre-book – sign up via the Duke of York Square website.
