Another great British actor has reportedly joined the cast of Doctor Strange: Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The 12 Years a Slave actor will star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton in the Marvel Studios movie, according to US entertainment site Deadline.
Ejiofor is set to be confirmed as Strange foe Baron Mordo, meaning he and Cumberbatch will once again cross paths after both appeared in Oscar-winning slavery film 12 Years a Slave.
Sherlock actor Cumberbatch plays the titular sorcerer, while fellow Brit Tilda Swinton has been lined up to appear as Stephen Strange’s mentor the Ancient One.
Deadline reports that Ejiofor’s character Mordo will be an “amalgamation” of characters from the original comic series. In the comics, Mordo too is mentored by the Ancient One, only to betray his and Strange’s teacher.
The increasingly British film will even have a UK release date before it appears in US cinemas: Doctor Strange is scheduled to debut in the UK on 28th October 2016, with a US release planned for a week later.
The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and written by Jon Spaihts, co-writer of Prometheus.
