The internet is already comparing The Martian to Interstellar
It's set in space, it stars Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon is stranded again. We can see why fans are seeing similarities...

Matt Damon’s latest film has got itself a trailer. The three-minute teaser clip for The Martian sees the star play a man lost in space (again).
Damon is Mark Watney, a botanist, mechanical engineer and astronaut who is left for dead when a space storm on Mars causes the crew of the Ares 3 mission to evacuate the planet. With no way to contact NASA, Watney embarks on a mission to survive independently for four years, until the Ares 4 mission is scheduled to land on the planet.
It’s a pretty tense and spectacular teaser for a much-anticipated movie and it’s already racking up impressive hits on YouTube.
I've probably watched The Martian trailer at least 100 times today

But fans – famous and not so famous – can’t help but notice a few similarities to last year’s space-set spectacular Interstellar. And we can see why.
Both films are set outside the Earth’s atmosphere.
On the subject of The Martian & Intersellar: I'm delighted to see aspirational, semi-realistic space-exploration making a comeback

Both star Jessica Chastain…
After "Interstellar" & now "The Martian" Jessica Chastain is Hollywood's go to for "Woman Worried About a Guy in Space."
— Chris Regan (@ChrisRRegan) June 8, 2015
And both feature Matt Damon as a man trapped in space.
Just watched the trailer of Ridley Scott's The Martian. Matt Damon stranded in space again, after having learnt NOTHING from Interstellar.

Why does NASA keep sending Matt Damon to space when all he does is get stranded? #TheMartian #Interstellar
— Matt Rodriguez (@Majiesto) June 8, 2015
It’s asking for comparisons…
Why yes, Matt Damon did play a stranded astronaut in Interstellar. Thank you, thousands of people, for pointing that out over and over.

Confusion…
I'm confused. Is THE MARTIAN the story of Matt Damon's character in INTERSTELLAR before he's woken from hyper-sleep?
— Tyler Speed (@tyler_speed) June 8, 2015
Wasn't Matt Damon left on a planet already? Is the #TheMartian a prequel to interstellar or is Matt the best actor for stranded guys on mars?
— MIKE (@RI_MIKEkudzma) June 9, 2015
So, in The Martian Matt Damon gets left behind, goes suspended animation, then Matthew McConaughey turns up to save him and HE'S GONE EVIL!
— Rob Williams (@Robwilliams71) June 9, 2015
Is it me or is The Martian supposed to be a prequel to Instellar because that’s what it looks like but then he died so I’m confused now.
— Matt Lucas (@RealMattLucas) June 9, 2015
Can’t believe they left Matt Damon in Mars no wonder he’s so angry he tried to kill the Interstellar people
— Imperator FuRia (@hughjackedman_) June 8, 2015
And some impressive speculation.
With Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon in The Martian, the whole movie could actually be a parallel timeline in the Tesseract of Interstellar.
— Kyle Hill (@Sci_Phile) June 9, 2015
But the general consensus is that The Martian looks a whole lot better…
The Martian looks like the good version of Interstellar.

I have a feeling this is going to be the film #interstellar ought to have been https://t.co/4XMaYlqQTj #TheMartian
