Coronation Street: Maddie Heath left “fighting for her life” following shock explosion

"Jenny is secretly hoping that she doesn't make it," a show insider tells RadioTimes.com

Sophie Webster’s girlfriend Maddie Heath has been left on the critical list at the climax to tonight’s Coronation Street following an explosion at the builders’ yard.

The surprise blast came following an earlier one in the same episode at Victoria Court that took the life of gym owner Kal Nazir. As debris rained down from the fire at the flats, a stray piece of flaming wood landed in the builders’ yard, perilously close to some flammable chemicals.

As Maddie ducked under a cordon to reach Sophie, she was caught in an explosion – and fans are now left wondering whether she’ll live or die.

To add further drama to events, Maddie was unable to tell Sophie she’d just discovered that troubled Jenny Bradley was set to flee with Kevin’s son Jack.

As to what viewers can expect to see tomorrow, a show insider told RadioTimes.com: “In Friday’s episode, Maddie is fighting for her life in hospital while Jenny is secretly hoping that she doesn’t make it.”

Actress Amy James-Kelly, who has played Maddie since December 2013, announced her exit from Coronation Street back in February and is set to feature in new 19th-century-set ITV drama Jericho alongside former Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine.
