Notorious gangster Whitey Bulger isn’t so hot on good parenting, if this new trailer for Black Mass is anything to go by. The Boston criminal (played by an almost unrecognisable Johnny Depp in the new biopic) is seen dishing out advice to his six-year-old son in the latest footage to be released. But rather than telling him to play nice at school or eat his greens, Bulger has some unsavoury words of wisdom for the youngster: “If nobody sees it, it didn’t happen.”
That was certainly the ethos of one of the most-feared mobsters in US history. Black Mass covers the 1970s, 80s and early 90s, following low-level criminal Bulger who became an FBI informant at the same time as building a criminal empire that ruled over Boston for a decade.
It’s still a while until we find out if Black Mass is any good, but judging by the footage released so far, Depp has certainly put in an intriguing performance. He stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Kevin Bacon and Sienna Miller in the new film – released in UK cinemas on 13th November 2015.
