We’re used to astonishing reveals of parenthood in the Star Wars universe, but new comments from upcoming Episode VII actress Daisy Ridley are making us suspicious that another character might be getting the classic “No – I’M your father” chat…
Speaking on a Japanese TV network with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Ridley was asked about the family of her mysterious character Rey – and her reply might hint at a familiar familial connection.
“I’m not sure how much I can say,” Ridley told the host.
“I guess because I have said that I am ‘solitary’, that’s how I begin – that is probably a big clue as to what it is.”
If we’re right about this rather emphasized point (which made both Ridley and Kennedy laugh), it seems like the actress is hinting she could be a ‘Solo’ – in other words, the daughter of Harrison Ford’s legendary smuggler Han Solo (and probably Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia).
This theory has been kicking around since before Ridley was even cast, but we have to say it’s looking a lot more likely now – though the actress could just be playing with us and Rey is genuinely just someone who prefers a night in with a book. Hmm…
Of course, when asked point blank if she’d heard the rumours of Rey being Han’s daughter, Ridley laughed as she joked: “Oh really? I never heard that.”
She concluded: “I’m so happy for people to watch the film, and know what happens there.”
Looks like we might be seeing a new generation take the controls of the Millennium Falcon come December 2015.
