Former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff will play an astronaut in Sharknado 3, RadioTimes.com can reveal.
The Hoff will appear towards the end of the upcoming new film about the lethal fishies, dashing hopes that he may be donning his red trunks again and reprising his role as Baywatch’s lifeguard Mitch Buchannon.
“I play an astronaut,” he told RadioTimes.com at the premiere of his new Dave sitcom Hoff the Record. “I am in the end. It’s a really funny film. It’s so stupidly corny, it’s so great.”
The Hoff wouldn’t disclose whether he meets a sticky end in the third instalment of a franchise where cameo stars don’t tend to have much luck.
Kelly Osbourne lasted mere minutes, as did Perez Hilton. 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander tried to convince us his character may have actually survived Sharknado’s second outing, but he’s not appearing in the third film which will be set on the East Coast of the US.
Meanwhile, another silver screen project featuring The Hoff’s rumoured involvement is the Baywatch movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who confirmed the news on Twitter last year. We haven’t heard a peep since but, according to Hasslehoff, the film is still in the works – although he would not reveal whether he’ll be involved or not.
“They are still talking about making a movie,” he said.
“Baywatch was Baywatch. It was just a show about lifeguards. Why do people come back to Baywatch? When we did our audience research, what we got back was they like the relationship between Mitch and his son. If they bring it back again, it’s a good lesson.”
Lesson learned. Thanks, Hoff.
Hoff the Record begins on Dave on June 18th at 9pm
Sharknado 3 will be broadcast in the UK within 24 hours of the US premiere on Syfy this July
