Peter Capaldi and Ingrid Oliver reunite to film Doctor Who series nine

Her character Osgood might have been vaporised last season, but Oliver is back from the dead filming scenes with the Doctor on a beach in Wales

You may have thought you’d seen the end of Osgood. In fact, we all did last series when the UNIT scientist was vaporised by Michelle Gomez’s Missy. But we now have concrete proof that the Who fangirl is alive and well.

Ingrid Oliver, who plays Osgood, has been spotted filming scenes alongside Peter Capaldi for the show’s upcoming ninth season. The pair where reunited on a beach in Barry, Wales.

Oliver is without Osgood’s trademark Tom Baker scarf but she is sporting a white shirt with red question marks on the collar a la Sixth Doctor Colin Baker and it looks like she’s back in possession of her glasses, which Missy crushed under her heel in series eight. Even if they are looking a little worse for wear…

Osgood’s resurrection was confirmed by showrunner Steven Moffat earlier this month, when he said: “Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning – but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”

It’s unclear how the character of Osgood will be reintroduced to the drama after her untimely demise, or whether it will actually be Osgood we are reacquainted with, and these scenes on the beach unfortunately give little clues.

Capaldi can be seen putting his arm around Oliver before the pair talk intently on the sand, but whether the cameras are rolling or the actors are enjoying a spot of downtime… Who knows?
