When asked what viewers can expect from the shock scenes that will see Victoria Court consumed by fire, Marsh told RadioTimes.com: “Drama, explosions and death. Just a normal week in soapland!”

The latest blaze to hit the ITV soap will come after Tracy Barlow decides to wreak revenge on all who have wronged her.

With the Rovers Return, Dev’s shop and the Underworld factory having all gone up in flames in recent years, Marsh agreed that this now makes Coronation Street one of the most flammable areas of the UK.

“There have been a lot of fires, but it’s the same with any soap, isn’t it? How many deaths, murders or fires can you have in one street or Square. But it’s what keeps people watching.”

As for the rest of the year in Weatherfield, the actress expressed the hope that her character Michelle Connor would play a part in September’s live episode.

“I really hope I’m in it because I wasn’t in the last one,” she said on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards in Manchester. “I was pregnant with my little girl, Polly, who’s now four. So hopefully I’ll be in the next one. Fingers crossed.”

But whatever happens, she hopes that co-star Simon Gregson will be by her side and that Steve and Michelle get to have a happy future together. “Look at Ken and Deirdre. And Jack and Vera. Hopefully the writers can see that in Steve and Michelle.

“He is an idiot, but he’s her idiot. And she adores him. They have great chemistry. So why split up?”
