Armando Iannucci to direct satire on Stalin

The creator of The Thick of It and Veep will write a feature film based on the graphic novel by Fabien Nury

Armando Iannucci’s next movie project has been revealed: a comedy based on the death of Stalin.

The Thick of It and Veep creator is set to adapt a graphic novel by Fabien Nury, set during the Soviet dictator’s final days in March 1953.

Filming is expected to begin in 2016, and will be part of Iannucci’s work following the news that he was standing down as Veep’s executive director after four series.

The writer and satirist is also working with BBC Films on an adaptation of Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield, and has said that he is hoping to write an episode of Doctor Who for his former Thick Of It leading man Peter Capaldi.
