Tom Hiddleston haunts in trailer for gothic thriller Crimson Peak

Hiddleston stars alongside Mia Wasikowska - and creepy Allderdale Hall - in the upcoming film from Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro

Proceed with caution: the first full-length trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s gothic thriller Crimson Peak is creepy, jumpy and will doubtless have you checking beneath your bed this evening.

The two-minute teaser follows young 19th century novelist Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who, despite warnings, falls for mysterious outsider Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). But after being whisked off to his strange family home in the north of England she begins to discover he is not quite who he appears to be.

And the house? Well that breathes, bleeds, remembers, and is home to all sorts of strange, surreal and frankly terrifying goings-on.

We’ll stick with our characterless new builds, thanks…

Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam also star in the film from the Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy director.

Crimson Peak is in UK cinemas on 16th October
