Elysium actor in the frame for Star Wars: Rogue One

Mexican actor Diego Luna is reportedly in talks to join the Gareth Edwards-directed spin-off film

Star Wars: Rogue One is looking to bolster its crew of daring Rebel Fighters sent on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star – and the latest name in the frame already has a little sci-fi breaking-and-entering experience on his CV.

According to Hollywood insiders Variety, Mexican actor Diego Luna is in talks to join Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed as a rebel soldier in Gareth Edwards’ spin-off movie, which will be set just prior to 1977’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and features Ben Mendelsohn as the main villain.

And that robbery experience? Well, sci-fi fans will probably recognise the actor best from his turn in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, where he played a friend of Matt Damon’s lead character who assisted him in raiding a high-tech spaceship for access to medical technology.

After that ordeal, nabbing the blueprints for Darth Vader’s moon-sized man cave should be no problem, right?

Star Wars: Rogue One will be released in December 2016
