If you’re one of the unique demographic that felt last year’s Godzilla reboot didn’t have enough metatextual introspection, or that 1999’s Being John Malkovich didn’t have enough giant lizards destroying Japan then Voltage Pictures has the film for you – Colossal, starring Anne Hathaway.
Described by its makers as “Transformers versus Adaptation and Godzilla meets Being John Malkovich” according to the Hollywood Reporter (no, we weren’t joking), the film apparently revolves around Hathaway’s Gloria, an ordinary woman who loses her job and fiancé and decides to move back to where she grew up (so far, so normal).
But as news spreads of a giant lizard attacking Tokyo (here we go), Gloria realises she’s somehow connected to the attack through the power of her mind. But why has she been given such a potentially colossal (natch) influence on the world’s fate – and can she use her abilities to halt the destruction?
Basically it’s your average telepathic-girl-meets-giant-homicidal-lizard story, and we can’t wait to see what writer/director/tasty snack Nacho Vigalondo makes of it – though he says it’s a very “personal” story.
I hear you, man – we’ve all been there.
