Should BBC2 have axed Banished?

The Jimmy McGovern drama set in an Australian penal colony will not get a second series, confirms star Russell Tovey

Twitter was left in a bit of a state back in April when the emotionally-charged finale to Banished aired on BBC2, but the Jimmy McGovern drama’s loyal fanbase will be even more distressed this morning thanks to the news that the series – set in the first Australian penal colony – will NOT be returning.

Starring Russell Tovey, MyAnna Buring, Julian Rhind-Tutt and Ewen Bremner, the seven-part drama had quite the heart-wrenching final episode as – SPOILER ALERT – Tommy met his maker at the reluctant hands of his friend James Freeman. But a tweet from Tovey late last night has confirmed the news that BBC2 have chosen not to commission a second run:

But we want to know what you think. Yes, you. Did Banished deserve to be banished by BBC2? Or should fans get another run after they were left hanging by such a dramatic series finale?
