It’s a mark of the respect in which Robin Williams was held that many will see this trailer as a solemn memorial, rather than silly fun where Simon Pegg is given magic powers, Monty Python are made of CGI, dog turds walk and Williams plays the dog.

Williams joins comedy legends including John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Eddie Izzard in a script written by Terry Jones and Gavin Scott.

Pegg plays Neil Clarke, a frustrated teacher who is given limitless power by aliens as a test of mankind’s worthiness. It’s a loose adaptation of the HG Wells story The Man Who Could Work Miracles, and also has a vague similarity to the Twilight Zone episode Mr Dingle The Strong, for the very nerdy amongst you.

Voicing Dennis the Dog was the final role Robin Williams completed before his untimely death last year, aged 63. It possibly marks the only time the late comedian said the word “shag” on-screen.
