Coronation Street star Hayley Tamaddon to leave Andrea Beckett role

The actress will exit in September as part of Corrie's upcoming live episode storyline

Actress Hayley Tamaddon is to leave Coronation Street later this year, but the door is being left open for her to return as Andrea Beckett.

“I came into Corrie for three months and have stayed for two years!” Tamaddon said today. “I will be so sad to leave, I have had the best two years of my life here. It really is one big family. Everyone looks out for each other and I’ve made some incredible friends.”

The character is to exit as part of a plot that show bosses are saying is “central” to Coronation Street’s upcoming live episode in September.

Producer Stuart Blackburn commented: “Hayley has brought real magic to the Corrie cobbles – funny, energetic, totally professional and a joy to be around as a friend and colleague alike, she’ll be sorely missed and I’d simply like to wish her all the very best for the future.”

Former Emmerdale star Tamaddon joined Corrie in late 2013 to play Andrea, a night school friend of Steve McDonald. But despite initially causing problems between Steve and his girlfriend Michelle, it was cabbie Lloyd Mullaney with whom she eventually ended up.

Tamaddon is expected to film the plotline that will lead up to her exit from July. Of her final scenes, she added: “I am excited about my exit storyline and the fact that it is part of the live episode. Corrie has given me a great platform to hopefully go on to work on other dramas but I’d never rule out a return to Weatherfield as I love it so much.

“I am looking forward to what the future holds but in the meantime there is still plenty more to be done here.”
