Get a better look at Doctor Who series 9’s first monster

Following on from yesterday's tease of a new Doctor Who monster, the BBC have released a proper picture of the huge, metal villain - but what's lying underneath?

Yesterday’s grand reveal of Doctor Who series 9’s first monster wasn’t the most exciting of pictures, with the head of something alien being barely visible in the darkness.

Today, however, the BBC have given us a look at the creature in daylight – or, at least, the huge, hulking armour it appears to be wearing. Who knows what’s underneath?

Design-wise, it looks a bit like the Big Daddy suits from video game Bioshock. Note how weathered it looks too. Has it been stranded on Earth for a long time? If so, then that cannon on its left arm doesn’t look too friendly…

The man discussing a shot with the monster is Ed Bazalgette, who is directing episodes five and six, two-parter The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived, which feature Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams. The episodes are written by Jamie Mathieson (with Steven Moffat) and Catherine Tregenna respectively.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One later this year.
