Dominic Cooper cast in Seth Rogen’s comic book adaptation Preacher

The Agent Carter star is set to play the lead in AMC's new drama pilot about a troubled priest and an Irish vampire

Dominic Cooper is swapping the Marvel universe for a new DC Comics adaptation.

The 36-year-old British star, who plays Iron Man’s dad Howard Stark in Captain America and Agent Carter, has been cast as the lead in Preacher.

Cooper is poised to play Jesse Custer, a troubled Texas priest who after losing his faith discovers that God has abandoned his duties and sets off on a quest to find him.

Jesse is joined on his dangerous journey across the United States by his ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Ruth Negga) and a hard-drinking Irish vampire called Cassidy (This is England star Joseph Gilgun).

Seth Rogan, who is executive producing the project, announced the news yesterday on Twitter, saying:

Cooper, whose CV includes Agent Carter, Fleming and Mamma Mia, responded, adding:

Preacher is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s 1990s series from DC Comics imprint Vertigo and adapted by Breaking Bad’s Sam Catlin.
True Blood’s Lucy Griffiths and Ian Colletti also star.
