An awful lot of upcoming space opera sequel Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens remains a mystery from the plot to the characters – but we might just have learned a little bit more about the people we’ll be seeing in a galaxy far, far away this December.
A list of character names from the JJ Abrams film has been released by fansite Making Star Wars, which has been following the production closely and claims that the report represents every character known to have filmed at least one sequence in the movie so far (though they believe two characters called “Rose” and “Uber” might be codenamed by the production team).
A few of the character names on the list have already been released (Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren, for example), but the report (if accurate) does give some new detail.
Domnhall Gleeson’s mysterious (and as-yet unseen) character is named as The General – could he be some kind of officer for the remnants of the evil Empire? Elsewhere, we also see Andy Serkis’ character (he of the booming voice in the Star Wars trailer) listed as Uber, though as stated above that could be a codename.
Other tidbits include the fact that Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia has ascended to the throne as Queen (Charles must be jealous), and that the film may include a young Luke Skywalker in flashback – perhaps we’ll be getting some happy Tatooine memories of him hanging out with Ben Kenobi? Also, it may be that Daisy Ridley’s character Rey is actually called Kira – as was rumoured months before her character’s name was announced. Interesting…
It’s all quite exciting, but we should stress that this list may not be wholly accurate, and the identity of these characters is purely speculation at this time. Also apparently there’s a Space Vicar – great stuff.
Hopefully we’ll be getting more information on this later today as there’s a panel from director JJ Abrams (at the Star Wars celebration in Anaheim, California) which will probably reveal some juicy tidbits about the film – so stay tuned for updates!
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be released in the UK on the 18th December
