Michelle Keegan is filming in Manchester once again. Nope, she’s not making some sort of soapland return from the dead, she’s embarking on her big screen debut.
The former Coronation Street actress, who’s currently earning rave reviews for her turn in BBC drama Ordinary Lies, has joined the cast of Strangeways Here We Come. While her agent was unable to confirm the exact details of her role, reports suggest Keegan’s character will be embroiled in the dodgy deals of an evil loan shark.
The Paradise’s Elaine Cassidy, Misfits’ Lauren Socha and Penny Dreadful’s Stephen Lord are also among the cast, with Keegan tweeting her excitement at being back on set.
It’s thought filming in Salford will last a couple more weeks.
Following six years playing barmaid Tina McIntyre on the cobbles, Keegan’s keen to try her hand at different projects. A role with a certain comedian is on her wish list, she admits, telling Radio Times: “I’d like to do something with Ricky Gervais – I love his sense of humour and his writing. And I’ve always wanted to do a period drama.” Watch this space.
