James Bond: first trailer for Spectre arrives

Sam Mendes' second Bond film will see Daniel Craig's spy confront a sinister organisation

We may still not know exactly why it was released at 23:45 on a Friday – but the first trailer for new James Bond film Spectre has finally arrived. Get excited!

Spectre stars Daniel Craig in his fourth outing as the suave spy, who is given a cryptic message that leads him to investigate the titular evil organisation – with the future of MI6 at stake. It’s all very tense, as per.

The film will also star Andrew Scott, Christoph Waltz, Dave Bautista and Lea Seydoux, with Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Rory Kinnear and Naomie Harris returning from director Sam Mendes’ previous Bond effort Skyfall.

Last month, Mendes gave further clues to the film’s plot in a behind-the-scenes featurette.

“He’s on the hunt, on the trail of somebody,” he said. “You don’t know why, what he’s doing there. And that sense that something is up is also tied to the second part of a crucial story in Bond’s childhood.”

“It’s about whether or not to pursue the life he’s always pursued. Whether he matters and is he going to continue or not. And you’re going to have to come to see the movie to find out whether he does.”

Spectre will be released in the UK from the 23rd October
