Tyrion questions Varys while Jon Snow pleads with Mance in new Game of Thrones clips

Ahead of series five starting on 13 April, HBO teases the "war to come" and gives us a glimpse of the characters we've all been missing...

Winter is almost here. Almost. But while we wait for those White Walkers to finally arrive, HBO have released two new Game of Thrones clips to tease us –  and it looks like there might be more tension than ever before…

In the first clip, the exiled Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage)— sporting a rather fetching beard— is talking with his rescuer, the former royal council member and “Master of Whisperers” Varys (Conleth Hill).”You never told me why you set me free, ” says Tyrion. “You owe me nothing. Why?”

The eunuch replies, “I didn’t do it for you, I did it for the seven kingdoms…I believe men of talent have a part to play in the war to come.” And, much like winter, war is most certainly coming.

The second clip features Jon Snow (Kit Harington) talking to Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds), the leader of the Free Folk and current prisoner of Stannis Baratheon.

Jon is trying to convince Mance to give his forces to Stannis, because at least they’ll all have more chance of surviving the White Walkers during winter. “You’ve spent your life convincing 90 clans to come together for the first time in history,” urges the Night’s Watch guardsman. “You didn’t do it for power, you didn’t do it for glory. Isn’t their survival more important than your pride?”
