Firefly stars Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk call on fans to fund their webseries reunion

The pair's crowdfunding campaign for new comedy show Con Man has raised more than $200,000 in less than 24 hours

Firefly fans have been crying out for a reunion for decades so it’s no wonder that Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s campaign to crowdfund a mini one has been making waves online.

The former Firefly and Serenity stars want to team up for a new webseries called Con Man and are asking fans to help them fund the first three episodes.

Tudyk and Fillion describe it as “a light-hearted take on the personalities, luminaries, and characters in the sci-fi community”. And they’d know a thing or two about that, given that they’re rather respected members.

That’s probably why they’ve had little or no trouble raising cash for the project. Their Indiegogo campaign began just yesterday (March 10th) and has already raised $200,000 of its $425,000 target within 24 hours.

Four $2,000 Executive Producer roles have already been snapped up and 13 $1,000 Headlinder spots have also been claimed. Nobody had coughed up $10,000 for one of four Executive Producer roles at the time of writing but at the rate the crowfunding is going they may yet fly out the window.

In fact, the fund is rising so rapidly that by the time you refresh the page there’s a decent chance they’ll have raised another $10,000.

The excitement about the show is understandable, given the fact that it sounds rather similar to Tudyk and Fillion’s real-life industry experience.

“Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk-Me!) was a co-star on Spectrum, a sci-fi series which was canceled –Too Soon– yet became a cult classic. Wray’s good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star” the official blurb on the crowdfunding site reads.

“While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores, and lots of pop culture events. The show will feature all the weird and crazy things that happen to Wray along the way to these events.”

It looks as though they won’t be waiting long to bring the project to life. This is one crowdfunding campaign that has the wings to Firefly.

A premiere date for Con Man has yet to be confirmed
