Dyer was speaking after picking up his soap personality of the year gong at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) awards in central London.

The actor has been involved in a long-running Twitter spat with the outspoken Hopkins, who he’s likened to Albert Steptoe of Steptoe and Son.

“I have to say this award is for personality and it’s my personality that gets me into trouble. I’d like to dedicate it to Steptoe (Katie Hopkins) – please don’t make vile people famous.”
