It’s been months since we first began to get glimpses of Tomorrowland (subtitled A World Beyond in the UK), the next film from The Incredibles’ director Brad Bird – but up until now we’ve known very little about it. Damn these modern trailers and their intriguing ambiguity.
We knew there was a girl (Britt Robertson) who touched a badge and was transported to a magical sci-fi world that appears to be half cornfield and half Disneyland 10-year-plan, and that George Clooney was somehow involved being rugged in a chair – but not much else.
But never fear – a new trailer has revealed a few plot points that give us the sense that Tomorrowland will be more than a tribute to the identically-titled area of Disneyland – and that there will still be plenty of Clooney smoulder.
The new trailer suggests that Robertson’s character Casey Newton goes to Clooney’s inventor Frank Walker to look for help upon discovering the strange “pin” (which seems to only partially transport her to the other world), unintentionally drawing the attention of enemy forces as they attempt to escape to Tomorrowland.
Once there it’s up to Casey to save the world, as often seems to be the case with these sort of films, while also hanging out with Hugh Laurie who sort of seems like he might be a villain, but then isn’t. Or is he? No. Maybe? Hmmm…
One thing’s for sure – George Clooney is definitely still in it being all Clooney-ish. Possibly in a jetpack. Sign us up!
Tomorrowland: A World Beyond will be released in the UK on the 22nd May 2015
