But at number one, it is of course the opening sequence from The Day of the Doctor, the 50th anniversary special that saw the full potential of what the cast and crew can achieve with the sci-fi drama. And, for the scene, Matt Smith even insisted on doing his own stunts. When his Tardis is taken in by a UNIT helicopter, the Doctor is forced to swing dramatically from the doors, as he’s flown in. “We had no idea you were still in there,” Kate Lethbridge Stewart explains meekly. “No kidding.” the hanging Doctor replies. And with that, one of the most cinematic episodes in Doctor Who history was born. Not a bad jump from the days of tin foil men and wobbly sets.
