“We are a living soap,” says The Only Way Is Essex star Bobby Norris. “Everyone wants to know who killed Lucy, everyone loves a tram crash in Corrie…and I think everyone loves TOWIE.”
Bobby, who recently sported nothing but a sock (a willykini, to be precise) on holiday in Tenerife for the first episode of TOWIE’s new series, talked to RadioTimes.com about why ITVBe’s reality show is still going strong after 14 series.
“I think our generation is inclined to watch this kind of show whereas when you flick through certain Sky channels it’s all Air Crash Investigation or Henry the VIII and his eight wives or six wives and who beheaded who, and actually I think people are more interested in TOWIE than Henry VIII.”
But it’s not just the Essex-based series after a bite of the reality TV cherry – fellow cast members Lydia-Rose Bright, Lewis Bloor and Georgia Kousoulou told us they were “obsessed” with competing reality series as well as their own.
“And also being the original and the best has made way for the likes of the other shows,” said Bobby. “We all love Geordie Shore, it’s an amazing show and Made in Chelsea is a great show also but, I mean, obviously we were out there first and we’re still flying the flag.”
“But you always love the original,” added Lydia. “Who wants to get a pair of Love From Australia boots when you can have Uggs?”
