Everything we know about Doctor Who series 9 so far

As filming begins in Cardiff, here's RadioTimes.com's regularly updated guide to what fans can expect from the next run with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman

There will be an episode shot in Spain

Shortly after filming on Spanish island Lanzarote for series 8’s episode Kill The Moon, it looks like Doctor Who is headed to the mainland for an upcoming show. Director of photography Ali Asad, who is shooting two episodes of the sci-fi series, tweeted that he was headed to the country on a “location recce for the DR” following a series of tweets confirming his involvement in the project.

Missy / the Master will return to return in series 9?

Despite being zapped by a Cyberman at the end of series 8, it seems that Michelle Gomez’s Master will most certainly return, presumably for series 9.

Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine, Gomez herself confirmed that she will be back: “Yes. Yes is my answer. I’ll be back.”

While Moffat himself told Radio Times last year: “I’ve already asked her to come back… I can’t imagine anyone who’s ever watched this genre being convinced [the Master’s] dead. The Master is never dead, no matter what happens to him or her. She’s entirely unzappable!”

Whether that means that she will be back for series 9 is uncertain. Although, if Moffat has already asked her to return, it would be a fair to assume that would be for filming this year.
