The Man in the High Castle one of five new Amazon original series

Amazon orders Nazi alternative history drama series, US adaptation of Sky 1 series Mad Dogs, arts show The New Yorker Presents and two new children shows

Alternative history drama The Man in the High Castle is the standout drama in Amazon’s raft of new original shows commissioned for its on demand series.

The drama, an adaptation of the Nazi World War II novel by Phillip K Dick, became the most-watched pilot on Amazon Instant Video, and now a full series has been commissioned for the on demand video service.

The pilot was produced by Ridley Scott, and imagined a world where the USA had been conquered by the Nazis. Watch a clip below.

Amazon has also picked up a US version of Sky 1 series Mad Dogs. The original comedy drama starred Max Beesley, Philip Glenister, John Simm and Marc Warren, but the US version transports the story of Brits abroad from Majorca to Belize.

The New Yorker Presents is Amazon’s first documentary series, and joins two children’s series – Just Add Magic and The Stinky & Dirty Show – in Amazon’s list of new shows.

Classical music comedy drama series Mozart in the Jungle has also been renewed for a second series.

Amazon Instant Video transgender comedy Transparent won a Golden Globe in 2015, and Woody Allen has also been signed up to make a TV series for the on demand service.
