It’s official: poor Miss Mardle is destined to never find happiness. Amanda Abbington begins the third series of Mr Selfridge in mourning for Florian – the young Belgian who captured her heart before heading off to fight in the First World War and, like many others, never returning.
But while Abbington must dress in black garb, at least she no longer has to sport a corset now the drama has jumped forward to 1919.
“There’s no corset, it’s fantastic!” she tells us. “I can sit down after my lunch and not feel erggh.”
And that’s not all the Sherlock star is excited about… Selfridges newcomer Zoe Wanamaker has joined the cast, playing Princess Marie de Bolatoff – mother of Harry’s new son-in-law – and, according to Abbington, she “brings the glamour” both on and off camera.
“I just want to hang out with Zoe Wanamaker,” she told us. “She’s fantastic! She’s a joy to have on the show.”
Series three of Mr Selfridge begins on Sunday 25th January at 9pm on ITV
