The crime thriller is set in ‘one of the safest towns on Earth’ – there has never been a violent crime in Fortitude. So, naturally, it is not long before this frosty haven of tranquil is shattered by a murder.

Here are the characters, stars and where you might know them from…

Christopher Eccleston

Character: Professor Stoddart

Where do I know him from?

Doctor Who, obviously. Those not familiar with the Tardis may recognise him as Major Henry West in 28 Days Later, or Claude in Heroes.

Richard Dormer

Character: Dan Anderssen

Where do I know him from?

Dormer played Lord of Blackhaven Beric Dondarrion in Game of Thrones. He also appears in American spy drama series Hunted.

Sofie Gråbøl

Character: Governor Odegard

Where do I know her from?

Gråbøl played Police Detective Sarah Lund in Danish mega-hit The Killing.

Stanley Tucci

Character: DCI Morton

Where do I know him from?

Where don’t you know him from? You’re most likely to have seen Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games, but he also starred in The Devil Wears Prada, Burlesque and Easy A.

Michael Gambon

Character: Henry Tyson

Where do I know him from?

Probably a question you’re unlikely to ask. If you don’t know him as Dumbledore, then other recent roles include the voice of Uncle Pastuzo in Paddington,  King George V in The King’s Speech and the upcoming BBC adaptation of JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy.

Jessica Raine

Character: Jules Sutter

Where do I know her from?

She played Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife before departing at the end of series three. Also seen in Line of Duty and An Adventure in Space and Time.
