It’s an exciting day in film-land. The nominations for the 87th Academy Award have been announced, live from the US of A. From best picture to hair and make-up, it’s a divisive list. Not every brilliant flick or charismatic star can make it onto the short list. But you don’t need to spend too long on Twitter to work out that we in the UK are pretty pleased about our fellow Brits included in the race:

There’s a lot of love for Eddie Redmayne’s co-star Felicity Jones:

And, obviously, we know you’ve all got a soft spot for a certain Mr Cumberbatch…

Not that we Brits got all the nominations we were hoping for today:

Friends fans are feeling a little blue that Jennifer Aniston didn’t make it onto the best actress nominations for her role in Cake.

And people aren’t pleased about Lego Movie’s lack of accolades, either.

Even the director himself has waded in…

In fact, there’s a whole lotta lamenting going on, about all the films and actors who didn’t quite make the cut…

But grumbles in the Twittersphere aren’t limited to the films and actors themselves…

And some people, well, they just don’t see what all the fuss is about.
