Eddie Redmayne has an exciting start to 2015 in store. The 32-year-old British actor has won rave reviews for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything – a new film charting the world-renowned physicist’s battle with motor neurone disease.
And Redmayne, along with his co-star Felicity Jones (who plays Hawking’s first wife Jane), has already been tipped for an Oscar. But he’s in for some company on the red carpet with good friend Benedict Cumberbatch also rumoured to be in the running thanks to his turn as another British intellectual – Alan Turing – in The Imitation Game.
Redmayne calls Cumberbatch’s performance “extraordinary”, and says it’s a privilege to rub shoulders with his old pal at various awards bashes. “It’s just lovely seeing him. I know it sounds silly, but when you’ve got friends in this industry it’s so weird if you’re in the same place at the same time.”
The Theory of Everything is released in cinemas on 1st January
