The X Factor judge Mel B is a doubt for Saturday night’s grand final and producers may be forced to find a replacement.
“She is still unwell and we don’t know if she will do the show,” a show spokesperson said of the singer who joined fellow judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini this series.
The 39-year-old former Spice Girl, who didn’t appear at an X Factor press conference on Thursday, has been mentoring the boys and has just one contestant in the show – Andrea Faustini – after Paul Akister was eliminated in the fifth week of the live shows.
Last month, there were concerns that Cheryl would miss an X Factor show because of a throat infection, but she eventually took her seat on the panel.
In 2011, then-judge Kelly Rowland missed a live show because of illness. Her last-minute replacement was Alexandra Burke, a former winner of the show.
Finalists Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini have revealed the songs they will release if they win this year’s contest.
Mel B’s finalist Andrea Faustini is turning to Whitney Houston’s I Didn’t Know My Own Strength while Fleur East and Ben Haenow have both said they will cover OneRepublic’s Something I Need.
The bookies’ favourite to triumph in this year’s competition is Fleur who was recently also backed by Cheryl to win.
The X Factor final is on ITV on Saturday at 8:30pm with the winner finally revealed at the end of Sunday’s show which starts at 8:00pm
