And the X Factor 2014 winner is…

Can social media buzz predict the champion in Simon Cowell's long-running singing contest? If so, then Andrea isn't going to be very happy

In a world where social media mentions are votes, Fleur East is currently on her way to celebrating a landslide victory in this weekends’s X Factor final.

Yep, according to analysis of the last week of online buzz, East has dominated 75% of the conversation compared to her rivals Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini. That statistic, of course, was mainly down to East’s stunning cover of Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk in last Saturday’s show.

Trailing behind East is Ben Haenow, who commands 19% of mentions. Andrea, however, despite being the hot favourite early on in the series, only received 6% of the buzz and was outdone on mentions of ‘Uptown Funk’ alone.

The analysis is from social media monitoring and analysis company Meltwater, who saw 85% of the mentions of the finalists coming from Twitter, 12% from Facebook, 1% from reviews and forums, 1% from blogs and 1% from YouTube. The data was tracked from Decemeber 7th – 12th.

But, of course, we don’t live in a world where mentions translate into votes, and with only 1% of the buzz actually mentioning voting, there’s still everything to sing for. Especially when you consider that X Factor finals are rarely predictable, with whatever huge music star the winner duets with usually playing a role in the result.

The X Factor final begins this Saturday on ITV at 8pm
