Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s Uptown Funk rush-released following X Factor success

The original has been released early after Fleur East's cover of Uptown Funk topped the iTunes chart – and knocked the X Factor finalist into second place

Last weekend’s X Factor show was quite something: not only did we find out that this year’s finalists would be Ben Haenow, Andrea Faustini and Fleur East, the latter’s cover of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s new track Uptown Funk went on to top the iTunes chart

The song – the first single coming from Ronson’s fourth album Uptown Special – wasn’t set to be released in the UK until the new year, although it was available elsewhere. But after Fleur’s success the duo has rush-released the single, with the BBC reporting that it’s five weeks early. Now the original track sits pretty at the top of the iTunes chart, putting it firmly in the running for this year’s Christmas Number One.

Fleur remains in second place, ahead of mega stars Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Take That and One Direction.

Simon Cowell, Fleur’s mentor, admitted he’d only heard the track days before last week’s show and decided last-minute to swap things around so she could perform it.

It was certainly a good decision, seeing her safely into the final this weekend, where it looks likely she’ll team up with Meghan Trainor for a performance of All About The Bass.
