The fallout from the Sony Pictures hack continues, with the latest leaked documents revealing celebrity contact details and upcoming film scripts.
Among the thousands of files released by hackers were internal fact sheets for many recent Sony films, which included phone numbers for directors, cast and crew. Also listed were the the aliases celebrities use when they travel. Stars including Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig and Natalie Portman will now have to use different false names in order to protect their privacy, while some have had their mobile numbers made public.
The personal details of 40,000 ex-Sony employees were also leaked, including salaries and social security numbers (vital for US identification and citizenship). Embarrassingly, internal polling data for the company’s stars was also revealed, showing how popular actors are in different countries and territories. Scripts for upcoming films Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Goosebumps and The Wedding Ringer were also released.
The latest tranche of data was posted by a group calling themselves the ‘Guardians of Peace’. It is speculated the hackers are connected to North Korea, and are acting in response to the forthcoming comedy The Interview, in which James Franco and Seth Rogen star as journalists on a mission to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
While calling the hack a “righteous deed”, North Korea has denied involvement. Nevertheless, a message apparently from the hackers demanded Sony cancel “the movie of terrorism which can break the regional peace and cause the war.”
