Phillip Schofield clearly doesn’t do things by halves when it comes to charity. The This Morning and The Cube star has already spent 24 hours presenting live on ITV in aid of the Text Santa campaign, and now, just a a week later, he’s scaled a section of the highest building in Western Europe to raise even more money.

The film of Schofield’s challenge will be shown when Text Santa airs on 19 December but here’s a glimpse of how it happened…

Yesterday morning the presenter tweeted, “Today’s the day! If you’re in London & see a helicopter buzzing round The Shard .. It’s cos I’m up there!!”

Soon, Schofield had pre-climbing jitters as he surveyed the 87-storey, glass building…

With the help of climbing experts and under the surveillance of a helicopter circling overhead, he reached the top…

“When I let go with both hands on a thin girder it was a feeling like nothing else in my life!!!,” Schofield tweeted.

And here’s a relieved Schofield inside, at the peak of the Shard, over 300 metres above ground…

Asked how he felt at the top, Schofield tweeted, “Better than I could ever have imagined! No hands at 1,016ft!”
