Two worlds collided last night as British royalty met pop royalty when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hung out with Beyoncé and Jay Z at a basketball game in Brooklyn, New York, as part of their three-day US visit.
As the basketball players took a break part-way through the third quarter, William and Kate were greeted by Jay and Bey, who strolled over for a planned meeting, surrounded by delighted onlookers.
And in what might be the most appropriate mash-up ever, the PA system played Rule Brittania – followed by Beyoncé’s hit Crazy in Love (featuring Jay Z, of course).
The crowd was clearly pretty pleased to have Kate and Wills at the match, although they were so busy photobombing the royals, we’re not sure how much of the Brooklyn Nets versus Cleveland Cavaliers game anyone actually watched…
This regal courtside hang-out was the conclusion to a whirlwind day for the Duke and Duchess. William took a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet President Barack Obama in the Oval Office and deliver a speech at the World Bank Group’s International Corruption Hunters Alliance Conference, while Kate spent the morning at the Northside Centre for Child Development in Harlem.
Today, Will and Kate will start proceedings with a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and a trip to the top of the Empire State Building which turned its lights red, white and blue in honour of the royal couple on Sunday evening.
The couple will then attend a lavish fundraiser at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for St Andrews University with Tom Hanks and Princess Eugenie expected to attend.
