Ryan Reynolds set to star in Deadpool film

The actor teases that he will return to the superhero character he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine for a new solo movie

It looks like Ryan Reynolds will reprise his X-Men Origins: Wolverine role for a feature film on Deadpool, the wise-cracking superhero who, after military experiments in the 2009 film, is rendered near-invincible but is left severely scarred.

Rumours of Reynolds starring in the film have been circling for a while but the actor himself finally appeared to confirm his role with the tweet below, which includes the superhero’s favourite word alongside portrait made of bullets by artist Mike Oncley. The tweet appeared roughly around the same time as Deadline announced that his casting was a go with 20th Century Fox Films.

At the end of the critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynold’s Wade “Deadpool” Wilson is left as a mute with sword-arms, but it is unlikely that the comic book favourite’s solo film will continue that story.

Instead, it will likely resemble the below test footage released earlier this year, which was used as a pitch by Tim Miller, who will be directing from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Deadpool has been scheduled for a release date of 12th February 12 2016
