Mike Tindall is the first celebrity to be confirmed by Channel 4 for next year’s ski-themed reality show The Jump.
The former rugby professional, who is married to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips, will head to Innsbruck in Austria to train and compete in all manner of winter sports for this second series, which features high speed skating, bobsleigh and of course ski jumping among the winter sports tests.
Last year’s competitors included pop star Sinitta and five-time Olympic gold medal rower Sir Steve Redgrave. In quite the reality show twist, the competiton was eventually won by one of the many back up contestants, pop star Joe McElderry, who was on a ski holiday when he was called up after injuries saw several celebrities bow out of the contest.
It’s a tough challenge ahead of Tindall, who will train on three different size ski jumps for the live ‘jump-offs’, which pit the two lowest scorers from the individual challenges against each other. Having visited the site myself I can confirm they’re all very high and it’s a brave person indeed who straps on a pair of skis to fly down them. Standing next to the jump is more than enough.
Will the Queen pop along to watch and cheer him on? Time will tell. Time will tell….
The Jump returns early next year on Channel 4
