On Thursday, 007 fans will get their first official details of Bond 24, the film that will follow the explosive success of 2012’s Skyfall. Ahead of the start of principal photography on 8th December, we’re expecting to hear confirmation of the film’s title and its cast – including who will play the villain.
But if you just can’t wait that long to be shaken, then we’ve stirred up all of the rumours and information so far in one place to give you a glimpse of what you might expect. Here’s everything we know about Bond 24…
First up, Daniel Craig is back in the lead for both Bond 24 and Bond 25
After 2012’s Skyfall, the actor signed on for two more big screen outings as 007, which would mean five in total, making him the third most prolific big-screen Bond behind Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
Also returning is Skyfall director Sam Mendes
Mendes will become the first director to helm two films in a row since John Glen. Also confirmed to return are Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M, and Ben Whishaw as Q.
Bond 24 will continue the story from Skyfall
James Bond may never acknowledge the fact that his face seems to change every other film, but Mendes revealed on The Charlie Rose Show that Bond 24 will at least refer to the events of Skyfall.
“I started a number of stories that were incomplete. I cast a new M, I cast a new Moneypenny, I cast a new Q, I cast a new Tanner. There was a missing piece now.”
24 & 25 were initially supposed to be filmed simultaneously
As is becoming traditional in big Hollywood sequels, the original plan was to film Bond 24 and 25 back to back, with the stories following on into each other. However, this was scrapped when Mendes detached himself from the project.
“I didn’t want to do it initially,” he admitted. “I felt like there was a way to create the second part of a two-part story. And then I started to get really interested again, when they agreed to wait a little longer and not go immediately and not go with two movies but with one, which I felt very strongly about.”
The villain role is not yet confirmed, but… Christoph Waltz is rumoured to be playing Blofeld
On the official Bond 24 IMDB page, Waltz’s name is very confidently sitting at the top. From Inglorious Basterds, we know Waltz has the acting chops to put in a brilliantly villainous performance, but more interestingly is the rumour of who exactly he will be playing. The idea initially came from a report in The Mail on Sunday. A ‘Hollywood source’ apparently told them:
“Christoph Waltz is playing Blofeld in the next Bond film. The tone of the 007 films has changed significantly in recent years and the producers have changed the character to fit in with the new-look 007.”
But Andrew Scott – AKA Sherlock’s Moriarty – is also rumoured for the role
An insider has apparently revealed to The Mirror: “Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock.
Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing Sherlock profile – and amp it up to the next level. Andrew is hoping the move will see him leap from TV to the big screen, where he can eventually divide his time between London and LA. He knows this is his big break.”
We will have to see…
The ‘Bond girl’ is rumoured to be…
As well as 007 himself, all eyes are also on the identity of the new female lead. Although initial rumours of Penelope Cruz were floating around, French actress Lea Seydoux has been strongly tipped by The Daily Mail.
Fresh from the critically acclaimed Blue is the Warmest Colour, and already tallying up a roster of blockbuster appearances (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and Inglorious Basterds), all the pieces seem to fit together.
And Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista could play a henchman
Last seen in blockbuster sci-fi romp Guardians of the Galaxy, former wrestler Dave Bautista could soon have another big tick on his CV, if the speculation about his latest role is anything to go by. He’s rumoured to be playing a henchmen called Hinx, with M16 HQ reporting that producers were looking for someone ‘unusual’, around 6’2, and in the age bracket of 30-45. So Bautista certainly has the profile and the build for it.
It is said to be filming in…
As is Bond tradition, the double agent is said to be once again visiting a number of glamorous get-aways. One set photo placed Bond in Obertilliach, Austria, as reported by local newspaper Kleine Zeitung. There are also striong suggestions that the movie will feature a car chase sequence in Rome, on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II thoroughfare.
And who will be doing the song?
After the Academy Award success of Adele’s theme song Skyfall, the production is naturally keen to have another big British name emulate her gravitas. Step forward Sam Smith, who is heavily rumoured to be the man to take on the new track, having beaten off the likes of Lana Del Rey. According to the New York Post, Smith was ‘the clear winner’.
And finally, it is said to be released on…
Allegedly, October 2015. Only eleven months to go!
